Contextual Fit

This projects is based on extending and existing building. The assignment is based on Richard Meier's Smith House located in Massachusetts. It is a modern style house built in the 60's. With this said, i am responsible for keeping the same style as Meier as i am extruding the existing systems and creating something of my own.

STORY NARRATIVE

Sebastian and Yuki are a young couple who are current owners of the Smith House designed by Richard Meier. The structure sits in the shore of Massachusetts facing Long Island. The Couple work as lifeguards and they want to implement this concept of beach, lifeguard tower and Shells as an extension of the structure.
The following functions should be implemented in the design: Living room(lifeguard tower),guest room, kitchen and office.

RANK OF IMPORTANCE

FINAL DESIGN

For my final design i did the criteria:

1. I made sure that the systems i extruded were clear because they set the limits of where i will be designing.

2.I set the Hierarchy to go beyond the limit because it has to be dominant when your first look at the building. The octagonal shape defies the common square of this structure.

3. The conceptual connection was by mirroring the circulation system and make it as simple and rectilinear as possible. The connection on the second floor you can walk through all its functions in a straight way.

4. A critical point of this project is to test if it "FITS" it has to look like a Meier project but with a touch of your own design. For this, i  also extruded the design of the windows and tried to mirror the other side placing the windows as it fits best.
