Residential House Project

Our first assignment was the residential house. In order to prepare for the final residential project we began studying the general rules of thumb of a residential house. From slope of grades for water management, separating what is public from private, kitchen design keys and much more. We had to have a sense of proportion on how big functions can be with a square footage limit of 1800 square feet.

I began to look online the average square foot of the function and modified them to fit best into the square footage. My design take off was by placing the public spaces in the first floor (kitchen, dining, family room, half bathroom), and the private rooms on the second floor(kids room, guest room, master bedroom, kids bathroom and laundry room). Then, i assembled the functions in a sequential way creating a rhythm but using a very similar floor plans for both floors.

Personally i enjoyed this project because it was a refresher from previous classes to have a sense of construction design and the use of materials along with the rules of thumb.
