LIGHT

The objective of this project is to have light as a function. How it illuminates or washes the space by controlling curves and limiting the space the light can spread. For this project i have been selected to design a non-denominational chapel located on campus ( SUNY Farmingdale). It consists of two side chapels, a main chapel and secular functions ( offices , bathrooms, library, conference rooms.

Contextual Analysis

SITE SELECTION

Based on my analysis of the campus, I will build the chapel in the following location in the image. the building integrates into the campus fulfilling another spot that points to the middle of the circular space and also keeping with the campuses circulation analysis. This building will be asymmetrical and 1 floor, s story high.

LIGHT RESEARCH

Narrative

The main focus of this project is the main chapel. Using light to control and illuminate spaces that make them look spiritual. Each chapel should tell a story at different times of the day.

FINAL Design

My final idea was a compilation of the presentations that we did in class and sculpturing them almost identical. For the main chapel, i used the idea of Le Corbusier's Ronchamp chapel where it brings down a delicate light from an opening high in the building.
